Talk about a busy week. I have been on the road for work most of the first four days this week and have barely had a chance to look up. With that being said, I still came across a couple good articles that I think readers will enjoy.
As always, below are a couple articles that caught my eye this week.
Ivanka Trump Advocates For Equal Pay
Last night at the Republican National Convention, Ivanka Trump spoke before introducing Donald Trump. During her speech, Ivanka advocated for equal pay for women in the workplace. She further seemed to suggest for additional support for women with newborns (ie expanded maternity leave). Quite an interesting topic to come up during her speech...considering that Republicans have traditionally not been at the forefront of advocating for equal pay.
$15 Minimum Wage Hike Hits a Snag in Baltimore
The Baltimore Sun has a good update on the developing fight in Baltimore to raise the minimum wage rate to $15/hour. As the article notes, Baltimore City Council President Bernard Young recently stated he will not agree to increase the city's minimum wage rate to $15/hour. Note, the proposed $15/hour minimum wage bill has already been amended to exempt some small businesses in the city, along with the Maryland Zoo and Baltimore's YouthWorks program. That concession might have been enough to sway some members of the City Council...but at least note the City Council President. Interesting to see if this bill actually becomes law...
Great article from The Wall Street Journal earlier this week in which it is noted that the National Labor Relations Board is likely to soon rule on whether grad students will be allowed to unionize. Readers might remember that I have previously written about college athletes who have attempted to unionize (but have been prohibited from doing so). Will this case be any different? Tough to say, but the article provides some great insight into some of the finer points of this matter.
